- NOTE: one thing that the lesson did not make clear was that
- a final -e can be dropped before adding the í ending,
- but that a final -a cannot be dropped. There is no
- difference in pronunciation here -- both the -e and the
- -a are pronounced [@] -- and -í and -aí in the plural
- are both pronounced [i:]. The -e can be dropped but the
- -a must be retained because of the "broad with broad,
- slender with slender spelling rule. This rule is
- explained in #4-C.
